Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
